# API (Application Programming Interface)

A defined way for two pieces of software to exchange information, like a CRM sharing contact data with an AI agent.

An API is how software talks to other software. When an AI agent books a meeting on a calendar or logs a lead in a CRM, it’s using that tool’s API to do it. A business doesn’t need to understand APIs to benefit from one; it just needs a system built to use them correctly, which is part of AI Abstraction’s Production Engineering work.
